Listserv and Bulk Email Replacement Project

The Insider wants you to know that replacing the University listserv and bulk email tools are projects that are currently underway within NUIT.  The current listserv tool is a Unix based messaging system that has been in place for many years at NU.  The bulk mail tool is a piece of software that was developed in house, back before "e-mail blast" software was readily available in the marketplace.

With developments in the e-mail messaging market space it makes sense to identify and deploy a system that is "off the shelf" (thereby reducing the need to expend resources creating software in house).  We have identified Listproc by L-Soft as a reasonable replacement for our current listserv tool.  It's actually made by the same company but has tremendously expanded feature options.  We are working on a deployment plan that will be announced in the near future.  Maestro, another tool by L-Soft, seems to have much of the capability that we would need to replace our home grown bulk mail solution.  NUIT is continuing to test these products and will announce appropriate next steps as they are available.
